Apeman Proverbs: BYOB

B.Y.O.B is a common acronym that means Bring-Your-Own-Beer!


...But this is a misconception, because when you BYOB you bring it for everyone. Beer Karma never rewards you when you aren’t sharing your tasty beverage, it is after all meant to be drank. BYOB does allow you the freedom to bring the beer you want to drink, you don’t have to cater to all the guests, but it’s wise too and it’s important to take care of the host at the party. BYOB is a pretty simple way to gain Beer Karma points:

 - Always Bring the Beer you like and want to drink

- Always take care of the host: if the host of the party doesn’t like the beer you like, be sure to at least bring a 6 pack of the beer the host enjoys. This is just being a good guest.

- If you bring “special” beer or Beer you’re specifically saving, then you must have your own cooler. 

– Beer Karma will reward those that bring beer for everyone on top of your special beer.

BYOB stays at the host home and can become Fridge Beer for that host. Once the beer is brought to a party and goes in the guest fridge, it stays and gets drank until it’s gone, it doesn’t go back to your home because you didn’t drink it.

  Exceptions:

You bought the beer to specifically save but just so happened to be getting beer for the party and picked up both at the same time.

This is apart of your Private Collection and it didn’t get opened up.


Beer Karma can go down if you don’t follow the proper guidelines as well.

- If you take BYOB but never provide 

- You Drink all the “good” stuff and provide the cheapest.

- You only bring singles and keep them on you which means you drink warm beer at one point, seriously, just boot this person out of your party, they aren't cool.

- You bring a bottle of Wine, this is BYOB and we’re talking beer – The wine will be used to cook with.

Even if the Party isn’t BYOB and it’s at a home, BYOB is always a positive thing and should be brought even if you weren’t asked. If the host of the party doesn’t drink beer… you should find a better party!

Meaning:   Fridge Beer spotted circa 2011 Chicago, Humboldt Park Cold beer in a refrigerator for anyone to drink that enters one’s home. This is not to be mistaken as a BEER FRIDGE, though a Beer Fridge maybe the place where Fridge Beer is stored they are not of equal value. This beer is offered, Do you want one? Rather than do you mind if I have a beer. Guest shall not have to ask for a Fridge Beer as it's usually a “ everyones ” beer, but there are no rules to this and is all up to the owner’s discretion. Fridge Beer isn’t whether or not you have it, but it’s a state of being, it just is. If no beer is in the Fridge, then you do not have Fridge Beer. If Beer is consumed in full and needs to be restock, that is not Fridge Beer.  Beer Karma points are awarded to those that follow the Fridge Beer rules. Final Look of Everything Went Black My love for dark beers isn't limited to only Stouts and Porters. Black IPAs or Cascadian Dark Ales whatever you choose to call them, they are one of the unfortunate left behind styles. Yes, it's still being brewed by some breweries just not at the rate as it once did, even Firestone discontinued Wookey Jack . I found a love/obsession for them after having Lagunitas NightTime . If you want my opinion I think Dark Ale or Cascadian Dark Ale is probably a better descriptor for the style but honestly, I don't care. I had this beer called KCCO once and I think this was the moment that opened my mindset to the possibilities with darker styles. It was like a smooth cold brew coffee with little to no bite to it. After learning more about the style Black Lager/Schwarzbier style I started to seek them out and would always try when I saw them on tap. Prior to this beer I only made one dark beer and it was a stout that didn't turn out good...
