Apeman Proverbs: BYOB

Image
B.Y.O.B is a common acronym that means Bring-Your-Own-Beer! ...But this is a misconception, because when you BYOB you bring it for everyone. Beer Karma never rewards you when you aren’t sharing your tasty beverage, it is after all meant to be drank. BYOB does allow you the freedom to bring the beer you want to drink, you don’t have to cater to all the guests, but it’s wise too and it’s important to take care of the host at the party. BYOB is a pretty simple way to gain Beer Karma points:   - Always Bring the Beer you like and want to drink - Always take care of the host: if the host of the party doesn’t like the beer you like, be sure to at least bring a 6 pack of the beer the host enjoys. This is just being a good guest. - If you bring “special” beer or Beer you’re specifically saving, then you must have your own cooler.  – Beer Karma will reward those that bring beer for everyone on top of your special beer. Brewed At Birth

When I started homebrewing about 10 years ago I didn't think it would become the obsession that it has. I didn't know what good beer was until I was at college and had Newcastle and Pyramid Hefeweizen for the first time. I admit I wasn't a big beer guy before that. It wasn't until I had Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale that really got me into the obsession. I remember getting all different "style" beers by Sierra Nevada to learn the basics of what that style was. Now when I started brewing there wasn't the community that there is now, there was some online content but truthfully I wasn't aware of it. Those first two kit beers I made were not good. After that I sort of slowed down and focused on music and my band so homebrewing took a back seat. One random day I foun...

My last "best of list" was in 2013 and it was honestly the last time I felt completely connected to music. Since then I've been sinking deeper and deeper into losing that passion for music and what it meant to me. I have had no drive to explore new music, no drive to play music and also have had periods of extreme highs with rediscovering music, finding new music, being extremely happy with my playing but those periods were far and few between and were very brief. As I look at yet another year in music – another year of reading best of lists and finding new bands/music 10 days before the end of the year and can claim it's apart of your list even through there's no time to really digest it, so those "feels" may seemed forced or immature. There are other times though the music just hits you and you really grasp it at first listen. Thank You Scientist is an example of that, they were introduced to me in December of 2012 and it was the greatest thing I he...
